Nursery Class

Nursery Class

Nursery Class at Rosemary Works takes children from age 3 to 4, with learning firmly rooted in play and the EYFS curriculum. Families looking for a private nursery N1 often choose Rosemary Works for small classes and a warm start to school life.

Nursery Class is the first year in Rosemary Works, taking children from age 3. This is a hugely important pre-school year, when young children lay down a whole set of skills and competencies — but it is also a time when children need plenty of space and care to breathe, grow, explore and discover the wonder of the world.

With this in mind, our emphasis is firmly on learning through play.

As always with Rosemary Works, every child’s learning journey is personalised. Each child has a Key Carer who gets to know them inside out, provides stability and security, and ensures they have everything they need to thrive as an individual. The Key Carer is the main point of contact for each child’s parents and collaborates closely with them to share progress and insights, both in person and through the Tapestry app.

Learning Through Play

Nursery Class enjoy a free flow between their bright, spacious classroom and our specially designed Early Years Playground, which includes fixed climbing equipment to support physical development, as well as an array of play options such as bikes, toys, books, arts and crafts, bricks and balls. We have a garden and mud kitchen with a good supply of waterproofs and wellies for year-round messy outdoor fun.

The children also make extensive use of the school facilities, including regular visits to the library and use of the hall for specialist music and movement sessions and soft play.

Outdoors & Beyond

Further afield, our Nursery Class enjoy weekly off-site forest school sessions at the adventure park right on our doorstep, as well as frequent trips, from local nature rambles along the canal to experiences at venues such as Little Angel Theatre, Hackney City Farm and London Zoo.

The EYFS Curriculum

Academically, Nursery Class follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) programme, a national curriculum designed to support seven key areas of learning and development: communication and language; physical development; personal, social and emotional development; literacy; mathematics; understanding the world; and expressive arts and design.

Literacy and Numeracy

Our Learning Through Play approach provides ample opportunities for the children to familiarise themselves with literacy and mathematics, which are skillfully woven into their day to day topics. To bring numbers and letters to life, we use Ten Town’s award-winning imagination based resource for maths, and Read, Write Inc for letters and sounds.
